Association of Independent Book Publishers

The Independent Book Publishers Association is a non-profit organization, a network of independent publishers and publishing workers from the United States, Canada and other countries of the world. It has about 3,000 members and is the largest trade publishing association in the United States. [one]

Representing the interests of its members, the association is engaged in financing, supporting and conducting seminars, exhibitions and conferences. Annually awards the Benjamin Franklin Award, [2] as well as publishes a journal and annually holds an educational event called Publishing University. [3]

It was founded in 1983 [2] as the Publishers Association of Southern California . [4] It was later renamed the Publishers Marketing Association . [4] It got its current name in 2008. [2]

Benjamin Franklin Awards

The Benjamin Franklin Awards are awarded to independent publishers and authors for achievements in the field of publishing. The award is awarded in several categories. [5] The jury consists of members of the Association, as well as librarians, literary critics and bookstore owners. [6] [7]
