Biography

Leonid Lukov was born on April 19 ( May 2 ), 1909 in Mariupol (now Donetsk Oblast , Ukraine ), in the family of a famous photographer in the city. In 1928 he graduated from the rabfak , then he was a correspondent for the newspapers Nasha Pravda, Kochegarka, and Komsomolets Ukrainy.

Leonid Lukov began his work in cinema as the author of the script for the film " Vanka and Avenger " (1927).

Leonid Lukov was the organizer of the Kinorabmol studio ( Kharkov ), in which he directed a cycle of five documentaries, “My Homeland is the Komsomol”. In 1930-1941, Lukov was the director of the Kiev film studio , with the outbreak of war and until 1943 the director of the Tashkent film studio (it was there that he shot the films "Alexander Parkhomenko" , combat movie collection No. 8, the legendary film "Two Fighters" ). Since 1943, Lukov transferred to the film studio named after M. Gorky .

The creative fate of Leonid Lukov is in many ways dramatic. His paintings were recognized by the audience, but, sometimes, aroused the rejection of Soviet film critics. The second series of the film "Big Life" , dedicated to the theme of post-war reconstruction, was subjected to annoying criticism. A special resolution of the Central Committee of the party of September 4, 1946 was issued. “About the movie“ Big Life “”, where “a primitive image of all kinds of personal experiences and everyday scenes” was noted. But the films of Leonid Lukov were just strong personal authorial intonation, confidence in the experiences of the characters.

In the paintings of Leonid Lukov, natural comicism and the joker of such actors as Pyotr Aleinikov and Boris Andreev appeared . In the films of Lukov, the best roles were played by Mark Bernes and Lavrentiy Masokha .

The post-war half of Lukov’s career was not so successful. Such unconditional victories as the famous film “Two Fighters” , the director no longer won.

Leonid Davidovich was a kind, open person, friends with many of his colleagues in the cinema. One of his best comrades, with whom friendship lasted for several decades, was the film director Isidor Annensky .

The wife of L. D. Lukov is the artist Shershneva, Vera Dmitrievna (1906-1978), who starred in his films.

Leonid Lukov died April 24, 1963 on the set of the film " Believe me, people ." He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery (8th section, 28th row).
