Skirmantovo

Skirmuntovo , also Skirmantovo [1] ( Belorussian. Skirmantava ) is a village in the Dzerzhinsky district of the Minsk region of Belarus , part of the Putchinsky Village Council . The population of 617 people (2009) [1] .

Geography

Skirmuntovo is located 18 km northwest of the district center, the city of Dzerzhinsk and 32 km southwest of the center of Minsk . The Wertniki - Ivenets highway passes through the village. North of the village is the highest point in Belarus - Mount Dzerzhinskaya (Holy) 345 meters high. South of the village flows a stream flowing into Usa (Ussa).

History

The village has been known since 1802. At the beginning of the 20th century, it belonged to the Koidanovskaya volost of the Minsk district , had 35 yards, 145 inhabitants [2] .

During World War II, the forests around the village became a refuge for Jews who fled from the Minsk ghetto . On August 29, 1943, a group of Jews was burned by the invaders along with almost all the locals. In 1956, an obelisk was erected on the grave of the victims of fascism in the center of Skirmuntovo. The village is immortalized in the Khatyn memorial complex [2] .
