Binhu

In 1949, when during the Civil War these places came under the control of the Communists, the urbanized part of Wuxi County was allocated to a separate city of Wuxi.

In 1951, districts No. 6, No. 7, and No. 8 were created. In 1952, they were merged into region No. 6. In 1955, District No. 6 was renamed the Prigorodny District (郊区). In 1958, the Prigorodny district was annexed to Wuxi County (无锡 县), which at that time was subordinate to the authorities of Wuxi. In 1960, part of these lands again became part of the city of Wuxi, where the Taihu People’s Commune was formed (太湖 人民公社).

In 1961, instead of popular communes, districts were re-created; the People's Commune of Taihu was transformed into the Taihu District (太湖 区). In 1962, the remainder of the former Prigorodny District was also transferred from Wuxi County to the jurisdiction of the city authorities and annexed to Taihu District.

In 1965, the Prigorodny district was recreated.

In 1983, Wuxi Urban District was formed; districts of the former Wuxi city have become urban subordination areas of the Wuxi urban district.

In 1988, the Mashan district (马 山区) was allocated from the Prigorodny district.

In 2000, the Mashan district was disbanded, and its lands, as well as part of the land of the simultaneously disbanded Sishan (锡山 市) city county, were annexed to the Prigorodny District, which was renamed the Binhu District.
