Semera

Semera ( Amh . ሰመራር ) is a city in northeast Ethiopia , the capital of the Afar region. Located in Administrative Zone 1 , in Dubti County ( am. Х ). City population - approx. 2625 people (2007). Semera is a new city, specially built as the capital of Afar. In this capacity, Semera replaced the former capital of the region - Asayite . The transition occurred at an unknown time until 2007. It is located on the Avash - Assab highway. Among the buildings built is the Semera Health College, where classes began in 2007 [1]

Semere Airport (SZE, HASM) provides regular connections to Addis Ababa .

Content

History

Radio Ethiopia announced the first meeting of the Afar Region Council on July 20, 1995. Six days later, the Council decided to grant Semera the status of the capital of Afar, and the Amharic language as the temporary working language. Key officials included President Alimirah Hanfadhe, Vice President Osman Ainet, and Secretary Mohammed Seid; the then current president of the region, Habib Alimirah, was not present at the Council [2] .

The eighth meeting of the Council of the Afar region was held in Semer from March 4 to 5, 2009, among the issues on the agenda was a decree on the abolition of female circumcision in Afar [3] .

Population

The population of the city is 2625 people. as of 2007 [4] Semera is one of five cities in Dubti County ( Am. ዱብቲ ).
