Biography

Vladimir Blum was born in 1877 in Odessa [1] . In 1907 he graduated from the historical and philological faculty of Moscow University . He worked as a teacher in the Nizhny Novgorod gymnasium. In 1907 he made his debut as a journalist in the journal Russian Thought . Since 1908 it was published in the Nizhny Novgorod Leaflet [2] .

In 1917 he joined the CPSU (b) [3] . Since 1917 - an employee of the newspapers Social-Democrat, Izvestia of the Moscow Council of Workers' Deputies , Pravda , Izvestia of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and other publications [4] . In 1919-1921 he worked as the editor-in-chief of the Vestnik Teatr magazine, and in 1924-1926, the magazine New Spectator [2] . He was the Moscow representative of the Leningrad magazine " Life of Art ", led the music and theater section of the General Repertoire Committee [3] .

Vladimir Blum published reviews in Izvestia, Pravda, and other central newspapers. In his articles, he supported the new Soviet theater repertoire [2] . At the same time, according to the Theatrical Encyclopedia, he underestimated the role of the classical heritage and the significance of the Moscow Art Theater [3] . He was very negative about operetta . He believed that satire does "harm to the workers and peasants' statehood" [2] .

He died in 1941 , while being evacuated to Tashkent [5] .
