Vincas Gribas ( lit. Vincas Grybas ; 1890-1941) - Lithuanian sculptor , public and political figure. One of the most famous Lithuanian monumental sculptors of the first half of the XX century .

Biography
Vincas Jurgø Gribas was born on September 21 ( October 3 ), 1890 in the village of Pelianai (now Shakiai region of Lithuania ) [2] . In 1896-1898 he studied at an elementary school in the village of Luksiai . In 1904-1910 he attended a private art school in Warsaw . In the years 1910-1914 (with a break) he studied at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts.
In 1914-1917 he took part in the First World War in the ranks of the Russian army . He took part in the revolutionary movement of 1917, participated in the formation of the Lithuanian units of the Red Army [3] . In 1918 he returned to Lithuania. In 1919 he joined the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania .
In 1923-1925 he studied at the Kaunas School of Art with K. Skleris . In 1925-1927 he studied in Paris in the studio of E. A. Bourdelle [2] . Since 1925 he participated in exhibitions. In 1927-1928 he traveled to Italy, Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia. In 1928 he returned to Lithuania. Since 1929 he lived in Yurbarkas . In this city, Gribas created his most famous monuments in his workshop: the enlightener writer S. Daukantas , the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas , composer V. Kudirka , engineer P. Vileisis , and the емemaitis monument in honor of the Lithuanian peasantry [4] .
After Lithuania joined the USSR, he performed busts of K. Marx , F. Engels , V. I. Lenin , I. V. Stalin [3] . He took an active part in social and political life. He was shot by the Germans on July 3, 1941 as the author of monuments to communist figures [2] .
Memory
In 1947, the museum of local lore was created in the workshop of Vincas Gribas in the city of Jurbarkas. In 1960, the gymnasium of the village of Luksiai was named after Vincas Gribas.
Many of the sculptor's works are kept in the Kaunas Museum of Art .
