Biography
Charles Fosse - French Assyriologist and Mystic of the 19th century He wrote the fundamental work on the Mesopotamian magical techniques "Assyrian magic." Living at the turn of the century, he made a significant contribution to assyriology and the study of magic. His work and contribution to science went unnoticed only because of the socio-political situation of that time.
About Fosset's personal life is unknown. Charles Fosse was very passionate about his work and had a large number of expeditions to the countries of the Middle East. Charles Fosset has published several scientific papers.
Education
Fosset had a wonderful education for that time: he studied at the University of Paris together with Emil Durkheim . Fosset's teacher was the great Julius Oppert , one of the first cuneiform decryptors and the founder of Sumerology .
Career
Due to the great employment and dedication to science, he did not make an outstanding career. Nevertheless, he held a number of posts.
- Member of the French school in Athens (1894-1897)
- French Institute of Oriental Archeology in Cairo (1897-1899).
- Professor of Philosophy and Assyrian Archeology at the College de France (1906-1939)
- Director of Research at the School of Practical Higher Studies (1907-1938).
- Inspector of Oriental Printing at the National Press.
Contribution to Science
Fosset's main discovery is a copy of one of the inscriptions of the Assyrian king Sinaheherib (the so-called “inscription from Bavian”). This happened during excavations in Al-Hadr and made his name famous in the scientific community. He also took part in the Persian archaeological expedition, where he also found many outstanding. Fosset wrote dictionaries, reference books, non-fiction books, published Assyrian and Babylonian texts .
Proceedings
His main and well-known work is the study of Mesopotamian magical techniques - "Assyrian magic."
- Assyrian Magic (La Magie assyrienne, 1902)
- Guide to Assyriology (Manuel d'Assyriologie, 1904)
- Jerusalem Magic Rituals (Jérusalem Magie Rituels, 1910) - not published.
Occult Activities
Fosse studied Mesopotamian magical techniques first as an Assyriologist, and then as a practitioner. The result of his scientific work was the work "Assyrian Magic." He further summarized some of the information from his previous studies and mystical experiences and wrote the work of the “Jerusalem Magic of Ritual”. In it, he described both his scientific research and occult ideas, arguing that the Jerusalem Magic comes from Sumer. In the same work, he closely links the origin of magic with extraterrestrial beings - the Anunnaki , whom he at the same time closely links with the Nephilim .
The work of the “Rituals of Jerusalem Magic” by Fosset never finished, although he was close. To date, his manuscripts are kept in the French National Library , and all existing copies are unofficial, although their authenticity is confirmed.
