Biography
He graduated from the Kuleli Military School in Istanbul. During the First World War he fought as a soldier on the front line in Palestine (1917), in 1918 he was in British captivity in Egypt. After his release, he took part in the War of Independence, first on the South and then on the Western Fronts.
In 1930 he graduated from the Military Academy for officers. In 1933, he was appointed to the operational management department of the General Staff. Having completed a number of command posts, in 1949 he became a brigadier general, and in 1959, an army general.
In 1960-1966 - Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Turkey. In 1966-1973 - President of Turkey , after which he received the post of lifelong senator until this body was abolished after the military coup of September 12, 1980 .
