Gusu ( Chinese: . , Pinyin : Gūsū ) is a district of the city subordination of the Suzhou city district of Jiangsu province ( PRC ). The area is named after Gusushan Mountain.

History
In 1949, the urbanized part of Wuxian County was allocated to a separate city in Suzhou. In 1951, the North, South, East, West and Central regions were formed in Suzhou. In 1955, the Eastern District was renamed to Pingjiang (平江区), the Southern District to Canglan (沧浪 区), the Western District to Jinchang (金阊区), and the Northern Region to Beta (北 塔 区) , Central District - to Shiqian District (观 前 区). In 1956, the Shiqian District was disbanded, and its territory was divided between the Beit and Pinjiang districts. In 1958, the Beit area was annexed to the Jinchang area. In 1967, the Pingjiang region was renamed the Dongfeng region (东风 区), the Jinchang district was renamed the Yan'an region (延安 ц), and the Lanzang district was renamed the Hongqi region (红 区 区), but in 1979 the former names were returned to the districts.
In 1983, the city of Suzhou and Suzhou County were disbanded, and the city district of Suzhou was formed; The districts of Suzhou City have become the urban subordination areas of Suzhou City District.
In 2012, the areas of Pinjiang, Canglan and Jinchang were merged into the Gusu area.
