Characteristics of personality and activity
A student of A. A. Novoselsky, professor A. I. Komissarenko noted his great contribution to the study of the history of Russia of the XVII century:
Focusing on the historical experience of the development of the south, he at the same time comprehensively analyzed government policy on the peasant question; revealed the regional characteristics of serfdom; determined the impact on the internal political course of the struggle of feudal groups, the socio-economic situation prevailing in the southern regions, as well as foreign policy factors and defense needs from the invasion of the Tatar-Turkish hordes.
The teacher of the Historical Archival Institute N. A. Kovalchuk recalled:
A very outstanding personality and a charming person among the teachers was Alexei Andreevich Novoselsky. Very simple in appearance ... with a mustache on the upper lip, with kind, radiant, wide-set eyes, a firm courageous chin, a wide, high, smart forehead. In his second year, he gave lectures and conducted practical classes in paleography and diplomacy. An excellent expert in his field. His lectures were lively, intelligible, interesting. And it would seem that this? Frozen sciences that lost their practical significance with the departure of the Middle Ages. But for history - an invaluable treasure. And he proved this with great interest ... Even more I appreciated his knowledge and ability to transmit it later, in the spring of 1947, in preparation for the state exam. Professor A. A. Novoselsky, who at that time became head of the Department of History of the USSR, gave us lectures on all sections of the course on the history of the USSR and led consultations. Then he turned around in full breadth. The brilliance of his erudition, the ability to bring all the knowledge accumulated by us into the system, to submit them in a harmonious logical sequence enlightened our heads before the exam. We all thanked him from the bottom of our hearts and after each lecture burst into applause.
