History
In 1957, in the article “Preserve the memory of the great” (magazine “Culture and Life”) Stanislav Fita and Lech Ludorovsky called for the creation of museums of Boleslav Prus , Henryk Senkevich and Jozef Chekhovich. Friends of Chekhovich, Felix Arashkevich, Konrad Belsky , Vaclav Gralevsky and Kazimierz Andrzej Jaworski , the idea was welcomed and transferred to the funds of the future museum objects and books related to the poet. The Lublin authorities also supported the idea, and on September 9, 1968 - on the 29th anniversary of the death of the poet - the Yuzef Chekhovich Literary Museum was opened, at 10 on Narutovich Street [1] [3] .
In 1999, the museum left the building in which it had been working for more than 30 years, and for three years it was temporarily located in the Vincentia Paul Manor . On September 9, 2002, the museum opened its doors at its modern address - Zolotaya Street, 3, which was donated to the city by the family of philanthropists Ryabininov [1] .
