Samjiyon

Samjiyon ( cor. 삼지연 군, 三 池 淵 郡 ) is a county in the northeast of Yangando province, DPRK . In the east it borders with Taehongan County, in the south - with Pochon County, in the north and west, through the Pektusan volcano and the Tumangan River, it borders on the Jilin province, China . The county occupies 9.49% of the territory of the province of Yangando - 1326.14 km². Administratively, the county is divided into 1 county town and 10 workers' settlements. The administrative center of the county is the county town of Samjiyon.

Content

History

In 1961, the workers 'village of Imensu and the village of Potheri in the Pochon county of Yangando province, and the workers' villages of Sindok, Kadon, Sinhyn, Samsan and Noyn in the Jones county of Pyeongan -Pukto province were merged into a new county - Samjiyon, named after Lake Samjiyon located on its territory. The district town of Samjiyon was formed from part of the working post of Imensu.

Geography

The relief of most of the county is the Pektu mountain range linking the Pektusan volcano and Mount Pukhothesan. In the north-east - the Somusan-Mubon plateau, in the south-west - the Sobeksan-Pothe plateau, whose slope is 4-6 °. Slopes less than 15 ° occupy 79% of the county. The average elevation of the relief is 1300 m, the highest point is Changungbon peak on the Pektusan volcano (2750 m), the lowest point is the bottom of the Amnokkan River within the Thonnam working village (800 m).

Altitudes of 800-1000 m above sea level cover 2.6% of the county, and altitudes of 1000-1500 m - 77.7%. On the territory of the county there are peaks that make up the Pektu ridge: Pektusan volcano, Chonilbon peaks (1798 m), Taeyeongjibon (2358 m), Soeongjibon (2114 m), Kanbeksan mountains (2162 m), Sobeksan (2171 m), Pukhothotesan (2288 m) and others. In the north of the county, Sandubon peaks (1532 m), Kansambon (1431 m) and Mubon (1318 m) peaks, in the west - Mount Samphosan (1502 m) and Peak Cheonbon (1456 m), in the southeast - Mount Namphothesan (1456 m) and others.

The main bedrock is an igneous volcanic rock of the Cenozoic era; Lower Proterozoic granite is also widespread southeast of Mount Manphothesan. The soils of most of the county consist of distributed pumice layers formed as a result of the volcanic activity of Pektusan, mountain meadow alpine soils are partially distributed.

Samjiyon County is generally one of the coldest areas in North Korea. The average annual temperature in the county is −0.6 ° C, the average temperature in January is −19.8 ° C, and the average temperature in July is 16.4 ° C. The longest time of the year is winter , the shortest is autumn . The average annual rainfall is 800 mm. South and south-west winds prevail, the average annual wind speed is 2.3 m / s. In the west of the county, the Amnokkan River flows with its tributaries Sobeksu, Imensu, Phothecheon and Posocheon, in the northeast - Tumangan with its tributaries Sogylchkhon and Sokhondansu. The rivers in the Amnokkan basin flow in a south-westerly direction, in the Tumangan basin - in the northeast. Rivers are rich sources of clear, cold water. The water of Samjiyon County is suitable for use in various sectors of the economy, the amount used is 12%, of which 90% is used in industry.

The county partially hosts the Cheongji Crater Lake on Pektusan Volcano, Samjiyon Lake and more than 30 large and small natural lakes. Forest area accounts for 95% of the county’s territory, mainly Olginsky larch , white fir, Ayanska spruce and flat birch are most common. Forests in the vicinity of the Places of Revolutionary and Combat Glory are managed by the Forest Protection Authority in the Places of Revolutionary and Combat Glory and the Special Forest Protection Authority in the Places of Revolutionary and Combat Glory at Pektusan. Olginsky larch accounts for more than 60% of all county forest resources. Economics

In the economy of Samjiy county, the first place is taken by the forestry industry . The Imensu Forestry Department accounts for a significant share of the DPRK forestry development. Logging is carried out using modern mechanical means, including winches . Forestry and agriculture , as well as the transport industry, are serviced by the Mechanical Repair Plant. From a large number of wood boards, recycled sawdust and wood chips, the Wooden Essentials Factory and the Uyezd Furniture Factory produce cabinets, closets, sideboards, tables, chairs, plywood. On December 13, a souvenir factory makes souvenirs for the “scouts” of places of revolutionary and military glory.

The county also has food factories producing soy sauce , twenjan , liquid toffee, confectionery, sweets and county-specific products such as blueberries , which are the main raw material, jelly and deer moss. Bricks are made from pumice reserves in the county, and rhyolite river and basalt sands mined in the working village of Sinmunson are widely used for the production of stucco mortars. Agricultural lands make up about 3% of the county’s territory, 98% of which are distributed between the working villages of Pothe, Hyange, Chungyn, Poso, Thongnam and other territories. In the fields of most agricultural lands, wheat, barley, purple beans, potatoes, etc. are grown.

A large proportion of the economy accounts for the sowing and harvesting of wheat. Cattle, pigs, chickens, goats, sheep and other domestic animals are bred. Especially a lot of cattle are bred in the working village of Pothe.

Transport

The Samjiyonson railway line with the stations of Motka, Samjiyon, Pegabon, Konchkhan, Imensu, Yonsu, Sampho, Tonsan, Chagasu, Nonsan passes through the county.

The Siniyju-Uam automobile road passes through the county, there are Phothe-Imensu, Samjiyon-Imensu, Pektusan-Kansambon automobile roads, and the Samjiyon-Imensu- Pektusan secret camp -Lake Cheongji-Samjiyon tourist route has been opened for trips to the places of revolutionary and military glory. The distance from Samjiyon village to the administrative center of Yangando province, the city of Hesan is 89 km.

Samjiyon County has a Forestry Vocational School, 13 secondary schools, 17 elementary schools, 5 culture houses, a palace for schoolchildren, several libraries, a gym, Samjiyon winter stadium, Samjiyon ski resort, other educational, cultural and sports facilities.

Also in the county there are 7 tourist camps, canteens, halls, recreation centers. In addition, the county has the People’s Hospital, equipped with modern medical equipment, the Center for Korean medicine, the nursing home, sanitary and epidemiological station, the drug supply center, and other health facilities. The county has the scenic Pektusan volcano and Samjiyon Lake.

On the territory of the working villages of Pektusan-Miren and Sinmuson there is a special reserve "The place of revolutionary and military glory at Pektusan", in the working village of Mubon there is the largest Mubon Biosphere Reserve in North Korea.
