Karpovka is a village in the Gorodishchensky district of the Volgograd region of Russia , the administrative center of the Karpovsky rural settlement .

History
Founded by Little Russians in the XVIII century [2] . Originally had the status of the settlement . According to the List of Populated Places of the Earth of the Don Cossacks in 1859, the settlement of Karpovka belonged to the Second Don District . In the settlement there were 150 courtyards, 1 Orthodox church, there were 936 male and 930 female souls [3] .
In 1921, as part of the Second Don District, it was incorporated into the Tsaritsyn province [4] . In 1928, the village of Karpovka became part of the Stalingrad District of the Stalingrad District of the Lower Volga Region (since 1934, the Stalingrad Region). In 1935, the village was included in the Peschansky District (since 1938 - Gorodishchensky District) of the Stalingrad Territory (since 1936 - the Stalingrad Region , since 1961 - the Volgograd Region) [5] . From 1963 to 1977 the village was part of the Kalachevsky district . Included in the newly formed Gorodishchensky district in 1977 [6] .
Geography
Karpovka is located in the steppe zone in the south of the Volga Upland , belonging to the East European Plain , on the Karpovka River [7] , at an altitude of about 50 meters above sea level. The terrain is flat, complicated by beams and ravines. 3 km south of the village passes the Volga-Don Canal [7] . The soils are chestnut solonetsous and solonchak [8] .
By road, the distance to the center of Volgograd is 45 km, to the district center of the settlement of Gorodishche - 53 km [9] . The village has an asphalted access road from the A260 federal highway (2.4 km)

The climate is temperate continental with hot summer and little snow, sometimes with large cold, in winter. According to the Köppen climate classification, the climate is characterized as humid continental (Dfa index). The air temperature has a pronounced annual variation. The average annual temperature is positive and is +8.6 ° С, the average temperature in January is -7.0 ° С, in July +24.3 ° С. The estimated multi-year rainfall is 386 mm, the most precipitation falls in December (40 mm) and June (38 mm), the smallest in March (23 mm) [10] .
