Kamen ( Belor. Kamen ) is a village in the Volozhinsky district of the Minsk region of Belarus , part of the Ivenets village council . The population of 518 people (2009) [1] .

Geography

The stone is located 6 km southwest of the center of the village council of the village of Ivenets and 26 km southeast of the district center, the city of Volozhin . The village stands on the border with the Stolbtsovsky district . In Kamen begins the small river Kamenka ( Berezina basin, a tributary of the Neman ). The stone is connected by local roads with Ivenets and the surrounding villages.

History

For the first time, the settlement was mentioned in the first half of the 15th century as the estate of the Gedigoldovichs. In 1451, a Catholic parish was founded here [2] . At the end of the XV - the first half of the XVI century, the Stone was in the possession of the Zaberevskys, who in 1522 built a church here. As a result of the administrative-territorial reform of the mid-16th century in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Stone began to belong to the Minsk district of the Minsk region [3] .

In the second half of the XVI-XVII centuries the place changed hands several times, in 1679 a new Catholic church was built in the town.

As a result of the second division of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1793), the Stone became part of the Russian Empire, in the Minsk district of the Minsk province . In 1795 there were 49 courtyards, large fairs were held. In the first half of the 19th century, the Stone was in the possession of the Sologubov and Plevako, in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries it belonged to the Arnolds and Yashtaldam. According to the census of 1897, there were 116 courtyards in the town, a Catholic church, a synagogue, an almshouse, a shop, an inn, three forges, a shop, and a bathhouse [3] .

According to the Riga Peace Treaty (1921), the Stone ended up as part of the interwar Polish Republic , in the Stolbtsovsky County of Novogrudok Voivodeship . Since 1939, as part of the BSSR [3] .

During the Great Patriotic War, almost the entire Jewish population of the village was destroyed in the Ivenets ghetto . Ivenets and the surrounding villages were under occupation from June 25, 1941 to July 6, 1944 [4] . The historic Catholic church of 1679 burned down during the war.

In 1971, there were 234 yards and 879 residents, in 1997 - 220 yards and 690 residents [3] . In 1990, a new brick Catholic church was consecrated [5] .

  • The hillfort. Located 400 m south of the village on the banks of Kamenka. It measures 92 by 88 meters. Probably here was a medieval castle. The settlement is included in the State list of historical and cultural values ​​of the Republic of Belarus [6] .
