Veronica and her lazy

A young Veronica is hired as a tutor for the young lobotrach Jean-Christophe, who is poorly taught in elementary school. The mother of a slacker recommends that the girl be as strict as possible with a student who quietly mimics the way adults communicate.

When trying to explain the division of fractions, there are difficulties, since Jean-Christophe can not understand how in the process of division the quotient turns out to be more divisible. Veronica, apparently, very loosely knows the mathematical theory, and can not give a clear explanation that does not increase its credibility in the eyes of the pupil. She argues that it is difficult to explain, requires knowledge of algebra, which students will be taught next year. Jean-Christophe remarks on this that they will not study the division of fractions until the very beginning of the teaching of algebra.

Writing an essay “about how I spent my day off” also comes up against an obstacle, since the student declares that nothing comes to his mind, and he doesn’t understand why he should write two pages about what can be said in two words. Veronica’s explanations that an essay needs to be written in order to learn to express one’s thoughts in depth does not convince a quitter who claims that in real life such a skill is not needed very much, and in general they learn a lot of useless things in school.

Jean-Christophe is not averse to finish the lesson early, and invites Veronica to go home, promising not to give out, but the girl remains until the end of the lesson and the return of his mother. Despite the fact that her pedagogy has not reached the goal, she, saying goodbye, praises the student.

The tape refers to the so-called “Charlotte and Veronica” series of four short films, which were shot in the years 1951-1959 by Romer and Jean-Luc Godard ^{[K 1]} .

Despite some naivety of the first short films of the future leaders of the New Wave , in these tapes in the bud there are already features of the later style and problematics of their cinema ^[1] . In this case, the dialogical principle of plotting is used, which is characteristic of a mature and late Romer, and the lazy Jean-Christophe is a kind of pre- Antoine Doinel ^[1] from a series of paintings by François Truffaut , dissatisfied with the need to follow the rules established by adults, whose authority he does not recognize .
