Reviews
April 10, 2016 in the online magazine “TextOnly” the first part of the poem cycle by Maria Malinovskaya “Caymania” was published:
This is a kind of boundary for me as an author and as a person. Exactly a year ago, the idea was born to record in the form of a verbal monologues of real people suffering from mental disorders, with the maximum preservation of speech characteristics. As it is embodied, the artistic concept has grown into a literary and social project, the main purpose of which is to give a voice to those whose history is otherwise unlikely to be heard and interpreted from more than just a medical point of view. <...> I started my work with the blessing of my spiritual father. At first, I had to recover literally after each text. Over time, a certain “spiritual immunity” appeared. <...> This publication is the result of my two “incursions into hell” and communication with dozens of its free and involuntary inhabitants during my life. Hope this is just the beginning.
In October 2016, the second part of the Caymania cycle was published in the contemporary art newsletter Circus Olympus + TV. Both parts were included in the long list of the 2016 Arkady Dragomoshchenko Prize.
From the cover letter of the nominee for the prize of Arkady Dragomoshchenko Vitaly Lekhtsier :
Maria Malinovskaya’s poetic cycle “Caymania”, which consists of two parts, is an actual and unusual variation of documentary poetry based on extremely complex and controversial material - authentic statements by people registered in a psychiatric clinic. It is no coincidence that the publication of its first part provoked a real discussion storm in the literary environment of Facebook - the cycle actualizes the fundamental problems of the correlation of aesthetics and ethics, one's own and other people's speech in the practice of poetic writing, text and those social practices of which it is an element.
Maria Malinovskaya is a completely new and (I dare to say) famous name. And more recently, she was only 15 years old - I met Masha in Silichi near Minsk, where a meeting of young Russian writers in Belarus was held.
