History
In April 1919, on the initiative of the county commission, it was decided to organize a museum in Kasimov. In July, at the District Department of National Education (UONO), a museum subdivision was created, which in 1921 was transformed into the Kasimov Museum of Local Lore. A. A. Mansurov, I. A. Kitaytsev, S. Kh. Bulatova, V. I. Kislov, A. A. Olenin and others stood at the origins of the creation of the museum. Many of them were part of the local branch of the Society of Researchers of the Ryazan Territory.
The museum staff carried out intensive collecting, educational, research work. It was during these years that the foundation of the museum collection was laid, and considerable merit in this belonged to the first director of the museum, Ivan Aleksandrovich Kititsev.
Initially, the museum's collections were formed on the basis of valuables from the manor estates of princes Golitsyn and Olenin, as well as closed churches and monasteries.
But in 1928 after the arrest of the director I. Kitaytsev, the museum lost its premises, and the museum funds were transferred to the warehouses of the UNON.
In 1939, the museum was transferred to the building of the former Khan mosque, at the same time it was decided to establish two sections in the museum - the natural and the historical. In the building of the mosque, a monument of Tatar architecture, the Kasimov Museum of Local Lore was located for many years. Currently there is a depository of the museum-reserve.
Significant changes in the life of the museum made the Great Patriotic War. Before the leadership of the museum faced the problem of evacuation of museum exhibits. However, the fighting, fortunately, did not affect Kasimov and urgent evacuation was not required.
In 1998, the city administration allocated another building to the museum - the mansion of the 19th-century Alyanchikov merchants. In the collection of the museum, the local history materials took the dominant place, and in 2002 the stationary exposition “History of Kasimovskiy krai from ancient times” was built.
On November 19, 2015, the Municipal Budgetary Institution of Culture "Kasimov Local Lore Museum" was officially renamed the "Kasimov Historical and Cultural Museum Reserve". Changes did not happen by chance - the museum reached a new level of its development as a historical, cultural, tourist center of the region.
Among the museums of the Ryazan region there was not a single museum-reserve in a small historical city - with the advent of the Kasimov historical-cultural museum-reserve, the situation has changed. Kasimov is a unique city in its own way: here significant cultural objects, most interesting for tourists, are under the open sky, the architectural image of the city is distinguished by its integrity and primeval preservation.
The architectural monuments of the Cathedral Square ensemble, the territory of the Kasimov Kremlin, the estate complexes of the 19th century, civil and religious buildings were components of the created museum-reserve.
Collections
At present, the museum has a collection of more than 42,000 units of storage, which is constantly updated with items of museum value that characterize the modern history of the region.
The Kasimov Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve has collections of fine art, samples of wooden polychrome sculpture of the XVII-XVIII centuries, a collection of artistic castings from the Batashevsky ironworks (XIX century).
Local handicrafts are of interest - Kasimov's bast-hand bells, as well as a clay toy from Vyrkov, are on display .
The ethnographic department of the Tatar culture and the Russian peasantry demonstrates the traditional peasant costume of Kasimovskiy district, as well as outfits, headdresses and ornaments of Kasimov's Tatars.
Memorial objects from noble families of the Golitsyn and Olenin families: furniture, fine arts and a rich collection of written sources (manuscripts, musical notebooks, a scientific library) occupy a special place in the funds of the museum.
