Denise Pyumann (born in 1946 ) is a French geographer , a specialist in the field of geo-urban studies and modeling of settlement systems. Winner of the Votren Lud Prize (2010), an analogue of the Nobel Prize in geography.

Education
Denise Pyuman entered the Higher Normal School in 1965, graduated in 1969. She defended her thesis in geography in 1980 [1] .
Career
- 1970-1981 - Assistant Professor at the University of the Pantheon-Sorbonne
- 1981-1985 - Researcher at the National Institute for Demographic Research
- 2000-2001 - rector of the academic district of Grenoble
- 1989 — p.t. - Professor of the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne [2]
Professor Puman is the founder and scientific editor of Cybergeo magazine (since 1996).
She is also the head of the European Research Group on Spatial Modeling in Social Sciences (S4) of the National Center for Scientific Research .
In 1992–2000, Puman was chairman of the Commission on Urban Development and Urban Lifestyle of the International Geographical Union .
In 1987-2000, she was chairman of the French Commission on Theoretical and Quantitative Geography.
Contribution to Science
Puman's research interests are concentrated in the study of the evolution and dynamics of city systems, fractal structures in urban networks, and problems of multiscale (scaling). Puman took part in the development of the SIMPOP family of models - multi - agent models for forecasting the development of cities and their systems. He is the author of a series of works devoted to spatial modeling of urbanization processes, comparative modeling of urbanization in Europe, the USA, South Africa and other regions, as well as in the field of the theory of geographical science.
