Club career

Mitropoulos was born in the city of Volos , where he began his football career at the local club “Aris” Petrupolis . In 1976, he moved to Ethnicos and spent 5 seasons for the team with Piraeus . In 1981, Mitropoulos signed a contract with the more titled Piraeus club - Olympiacos . As part of it, he spent 11 seasons, four times won the national championship and twice became the owner of the Greek Cup .

In 1992, Mitropoulos moved to the capital “ AEK ”, which included spent the next two seasons, having won the championship twice. In 1997, he returned to Olympiacos and spent his last season, ending his career at 41. Fans of Olympiacos gave Mitropoulos the nickname Rambo.

International Career

The debut for the national team of Greece took place on January 11, 1978 in a friendly match against the national team of Cyprus (0ː2). He was included in the national team for the 1994 World Cup in the United States (in the match against the national team of Nigeria he was the team captain). In total for the “Ellina” Thassos played 77 matches and scored 8 goals.

After a Football Career

After completing his career in 1998, Mitropoulos began working as an assistant to Dusan Baevich , Alberto Bigon , Yannis Mazzurakis and Tekis Lemonis in Olympiacos . As an assistant coach 4 consecutively won the championship of Greece in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Also, after the completion of his football career, Mitropoulos became a politician and began working in the city council of Piraeus . In 2004, he was elected to parliament from the New Democracy Party.
