Biography
Matthias Ekholm is a graduate of the Mora hockey club. He made his debut in the elite Swedish league in the 2007/08 season, playing just one match. The next two seasons spent in the second league. In 2010 he joined the team "Brunhes". In the 2010/11 season was named the best newcomer of the season.
In May 2011, he signed a contract with the Nashville Predators team, which was selected in the NHL-2009 draft [1] . Spent the rest of the season on loan at Brunhes, winning the Swedish championship with him. Matthias also won the Salming Trophy , an award that is awarded to the best defender of Sweden outside the NHL.
In the season 2012/13, he played for the Nashville farm club Milwaukee Edmirals.
For the Swedish team Ekholm played at the junior and youth levels. In 2010, he won bronze medals at the Youth Ice Hockey World Championship.
On October 26, 2015, he concluded a 6-year contract for $ 22.5 million with “predators”. [2]
