Biography
Early life
Sergio Aragones was born on September 6, 1937 in the small town of San Mateo , Castellón province of the autonomous community of Valencia ( Spain ). Because of the Spanish Civil War , the Aragones family first emigrated to France and then to Mexico (when Sergio was 6 years old). [five]
Passion for drawings from Sergio appeared from an early age. He himself says that his abilities as an artist appeared to him because after moving to Mexico he had no friends, many children laughed at his accent, and therefore he had to stay at home and draw a lot with pencils. [6]
At the University of Mexico he studied the art of pantomime under the leadership of Alejandro Khodorovsky . [five]
Career
In 1962, Sergio moved to New York ( USA ), taking with him only $ 20 and a folder with pictures. At first, Sergio often changed jobs, but soon he decided to work for the satirical magazine Mad . Sergio met (a Cuban refugee who created the Spy vs. Spy comic), who also spoke Spanish, and asked him to act as an interpreter at the interview, believing that he had a better command of English; but it turned out that Antonio knows English even worse than Sergio. However, this did not prevent the editors of the magazine from hiring Aragones because they liked his drawings. [five]
