“Kacha’s drink according to Tisin ...” ( Ukrainian duck is floating along Tysin ) - Ukrainian Lemkovskaya [1] ( Transcarpathian [2] [a] ) mourning folk song . It became widely known after its execution during the requiem for the deceased participants of Euromaidan .

Origin

It is believed that the song (words and melody) was first recorded by the folklorist Desiderius Zador in the 1940s. According to the researcher Vasily Sokol, its text goes back to the poem of the Transcarpathian writer Vasily Grendzhoy-Donsky published in 1923 [3] . At the same time, philologist Valery Padyak indicates that similar versions of folklore texts were recorded in the Carpathian region in the second half of the 19th century [4] .

The poetics of the work are extremely archaic. In particular, the image of death (or transition to the other world) as a duck bird crossing the water surface exists in various modifications in Celtic and Finno-Ugric epic works (including Kalevala ). The roots of the song go, as the researchers believe, to a love song (a girl’s complaint about an unkind groom), which was probably reinterpreted as a soldier during the First World War .

In the near historical perspective, it belonged to the repertoire of UPA soldiers during the Second World War and the armed struggle of the 1950s [ Source? ] .

Euromaidan Song and Events

A new life came to the song in the 1990s, when it entered the cycle "Our Partisans" of Taras Chubay's solo album. A later version performed by "Piccardian Third" (2002) was used as a requiem for the first requiem for the dead activists of Euromaidan . In January 2014, the composition was performed at the funeral of Mikhail Zhizhevsky at the request of his friends. Due to the powerful semantic and emotional load of the song, it later became an unofficial anthem, performed in memory of the dead activists of Euromaidan (Heavenly Hundred) [5] and others who died during the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine .

In addition to "Piccardian Third", the song is also known in the performance of various groups and choral groups, such as "Lamentation of Jeremiah" , Chapel of them. Revutsky, as well as the choir of the Kiev Orthodox Theological Academy, whose seminarians were direct participants in the events in the center of Kiev. Also, this song was performed at the international festival "Virgo Lauretana" in Italy [6] .

Lyrics

Gay, plinth swinging on Tisinі,

Plina kacha on Tisinі.

Mommy, my, don’t bark me,

Well, my mother, don’t bark me.

Gay, laid down in an evil year,

Put in evil evil year

I don’t know de pogin myself

I don’t know de pogin myself.

Gay, I’ll perish in a foreign land,

I’ll die in a foreign land.

Well, will you take the pit?

Well, will you take the pit?

Gay, vibe mi strangers,

Vibrate mi strangers.

Qi, not sorry for you, mamma, will you?

Qi, not sorry for you, mamma, will you?

Gay, yakby me meni, sinca, are you sorry?

Yakby me, Sink, are you sorry?

Well, lying on my heart,

Well, lying on my heart.

Gay, plinth swinging on Tisinі,

Plina kacha in Tisinі. [7]
