The 610th Fighter Aviation Red Banner Regiment ( 610th IAP ) is a military unit of the Air Force of the Red Army , which took part in the hostilities of the Soviet-Japanese War .

The regiment was formed on October 17, 1941 as the Kirov Fighter Aviation Regiment in the 5th separate aviation brigade of the Air Force of the Far Eastern Front (Sakhalin Island) in the state 015/134 (two squadrons on I-16 aircraft and one ae on I-15bis) [1] [2 ] ] . In November 1941, it was named the 610th Fighter Aviation Regiment. In September 1942, he was included in the newly formed 255th mixed aviation division of the Far Eastern Front (front submission) [3] .

In December 1942, it was reorganized to state 015/284. In the spring of 1945, the regiment was rearmed with Yak-9 fighters. On June 5, 1945, the regiment included: the 4th assault squadron (8 IL-2) and the 30th separate correctional link. In fact, the regiment became mixed, but the 610th Fighter Aviation Regiment continued to be called. In June 1945, together with the 255th garden, it became part of the 10th Air Army of the Far Eastern Front [3] .

As part of the [3] 255th mixed aviation division of the 10th Air Army of the 2nd Far Eastern Front, he participated in the Soviet-Japanese war on Yak-9 aircraft [4] from August 9, 1945 to September 3, 1945, supporting the advancing troops in the Sungari offensive , Manchurian , South Sakhalin and Kuril landing operations. During the hostilities on August 26, 1945, the 4th stormtrooper squadron and the 30th separate correctional unit were lost from the regiment.

In total during the Soviet-Japanese War, the regiment [3] :

  For exemplary fulfillment of command assignments in battles against Japanese troops in the Far East when crossing the Amur and Ussuri rivers, taking possession of the cities of Jiamusi, Mergen, Eianzhen, the southern half of Sakhalin Island, as well as the islands of Syumusu and Paramushir from the Kuril Islands and valor and courage shown By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 14, 1945, the 610th Fighter Aviation Regiment was awarded the Order of the Red Banner .

The entire post-war period, the regiment was constantly stationed in the Far East, was transferred from the 255th garden to the 296th fighter aviation division and, since January 1951, was based at the Khomutovo airfield on Sakhalin . In 1952, the regiment mastered the MiG-15 fighters, and in 1955 - the MiG-17 . In 1957, together with the division, it was transferred to the Air Defense Forces and learned the name of the 610th Fighter Aviation Red Banner Air Defense Regiment . Due to a significant reduction in the Armed Forces of the USSR, the regiment was disbanded on August 4, 1960.
