History
The brewery was founded in the city of Korca in 1928 by the Italian investor Umberto Umberti and the Albanian - Selim Mboria . The initial capital of the created company was 950,000 francs. Production capacity was 20,000 hectoliters per year - ale, dark beer, bottled water and ice were produced.
After the end of World War II and the establishment of a communist regime in Albania, in January 1946, the brewery became the property of the Albanian state. Over the next twenty years, it was reconstructed several times, each time increasing production volumes. In April 1994, after a change in the country's political leadership, changes in the social situation and market liberalization, the Korcha brewery was acquired at an auction by a group of entrepreneurs. In 2004, the brewery was bought by businessman Irfan Hysenbelliu , CEO of IHB Group , who invested 15 million euros in the reconstruction and renovation of the plant. The brewery has undergone technological and architectural changes, using the latest Czech and Italian technology, producing 120,000 hectoliters of beer per year. For the production of beer, water is used from the natural sources of Mount Morava. [one]
In August, the city of Korcha hosts the annual traditional beer festival organized by the local brewery of the same name. [2] [3]
Products
Beer under the Korcha brand includes: white ale with an alcohol content of 4.8 - 5.0% and dark ale with an alcohol content of 5.0 - 5.2%. Sold in bottles of 0.33 and 0.5 liters, as well as in kegs of 30 and 50 liters.
Beer has a number of awards for its high quality. Moreover, the first was received in the year the brewery was formed, in 1928, in Thessaloniki , Greece . In 2007, in London, the company was awarded the international Quality Crown Award . In 2009 in Frankfurt, the company was awarded the International Arch of Europe Award in the category where brewing companies from 178 countries competed. Korce products are widely distributed in Albania and exported abroad, including the United States , where it is popular in Massachusetts .
