Biography
According to unconfirmed reports, Nikiforov’s father was a large gendarme officer [1] .
Nikiforov collected "everything." Among many other things in his collection was a collection of compasses [2] .
Nikiforov’s contemporaries testified to his rare communicative gift - he easily found a common language with many famous people. He was friends with the artist Georgy Karlov and the poet Nikolai Glazkov [2] , appreciated his communication with the futurists Vasily Kamensky and Alexey Kruchenykh [1] .
Sergey Biryukov wrote about Nikiforov:
This man is terrific in every way, possessing incredible energy <...> Without Nikiforov, the city [Tambov] would be poorer. His long, lean, Harms straight, the figure crosses the city up and down. He knows every nook and cranny, all old-timers. A passionate collector who collects everything, but prefer art. Incredibly lucky in gathering. Outstanding storyteller. Nikiforov's oral stories were recorded by his friends, and he published a couple of thin books in the 60s. In the stories, truth was indistinguishable from fiction. So he demonstrated during the lectures with which he earned his living, the “ring of Chaliapin”, which he miraculously inherited, the knife for cutting books found in Tambov, made of the same metal as the famous Indian column. He seriously argued that Mayakovsky ’s real and only love was Yevgeny Lang, and in proof of this, he showed me a porcelain cup that the poet had presented to the girl, and then Lang allegedly presented it to Nikiforova [1] . |
Journalist friends wrote notes in newspapers for Nikiforov, and thanks to them he became a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR . Nikiforov, according to Sergey Biryukov, in fact, was engaged in journalistic management and newspaper provocations, telling journalists incredible stories, which they then retold in the newspapers [1] .
Nikiforov was engaged in the promotion of small graphics and ex-libris; thanks to him, a movement of malagraphists appeared in Tambov. The editor of the local youth newspaper writer George Remizov published this graphic in his newspaper [1] .
"Son" of David Burliuk
At the end of 1956, Nikiforov wrote the first letter to the “father of Russian futurism” David Burliuk , who in 1920 emigrated from Russia [3] . Burliuk was not only a participant in the Russian avant-garde , but also its collector. As a child, David Burliuk, the son of the manager in the estate of the princes Obolensky, studied at the Tambov gymnasium, and in the Tambov member Nikiforov he saw a kindred spirit and countryman. By age, Burliuk was a good father to Nikiforov, and in correspondence often called him “the son of Kolya”. In the late 1950s, after a nearly forty-year absence from home, Burliuk and his wife, Marusya, arrived in Moscow. He was not allowed to visit Tambov, and Nikiforov came to him for a meeting in Moscow, becoming the owner of many drawings and several pictorial works of Burliuk and a full set of issues published by Burliuk magazine “ Color and Rhyme ”. For the second time, Burliuk arrived in Moscow shortly before his death and almost received permission to visit Tambov, but in order to avoid meeting Burliuk and Nikiforov, the authorities of the USSR sent the latter on a tourist trip to India [2] .
Shortly before his death, Nikiforov transferred part of his collection to Sergey Denisov’s private museum, to which, after Nikiforov’s death, the Burliuk Foundation also ended up. In 2011, Denisov, at his own expense, published a 726-page collection of letters from David Burliuk. Nikiforov himself dreamed of creating the David Burliuk Museum in Tambov on the materials of his collection, but his wish was not fulfilled [2] .
Sergey Biryukov recalled Nikiforov in connection with Burliuk:
And indeed the true story is the friendship with David Burliuk, with whom he was introduced, probably to the Twisted . And Nikolai Alekseevich Burliuk liked so much that he immediately decided to adopt him! Burliuk sent to Tambov originals of his works, magazines, connected Nikiforov with artist Rokuel Kent , who also began to send him his schedule. Nikiforov stimulated the work of Burliuk, a portrait painter, he sent him cards of his beloveds, and Burliuk in response, portraits in oil. Burlyuchy Nikiforov's collection, I saw with my own eyes, he, knowing my interest in futurists, - made it! Burliuk he called the Pope. Later ordered a business card with the inscription "Nikiforov-Burliuk." |
