Creation History

The song "Raft" Yuri Loza wrote in 1982, when he worked in the group of Bari Alibasov " Integral " [3] . Loza offered Alibasov to include the song in the group's repertoire, but she was not impressed.

The song gained fame only in 1988, during the solo career of Yuri, who included it in the album “ What is said, what is said, ” recorded at the studio of Alexander Kalyanov . "Plot" instantly gained a resounding success with the public, becoming a "calling card" of the musician, despite the fact that the melody and intonation was out of the rest of Loza's work.

The composition was performed twice by the author at the festival “ Song of the Year ”: in 1990, arranged from the album “ What is said, then said ”, and in 1999, in a later processing performed in the first half of the 1990s for a collection of songs by Yuri “ For the soul . " Today, the "Plot" goes on radio stations mainly in the latter version.

Current Popularity

The song "Raft" does not lose popularity. In 2007, Alexey Balabanov, in agreement with the author, included it in the soundtrack of his film “ Cargo 200 ” [4] . The song is the leitmotif of the film, shading, in contrast, the darkest of his episodes [5] .

As a result of a sociological study conducted in 2015 by the Russian Reporter magazine, the text of Plot ranked 44th in the charts of the most popular poetic lines in Russia, including, among other things, Russian and world classics. “Plot” only slightly conceded the Soviet National Anthem , the text of which took the 39th place in this rating [6] .

Options in other languages

The song was translated into ten languages (although most translations contain a free lyric text in which the raft is not mentioned), the first one was sung by Ivica Sherfezi , his version was called (in reverse translation) “The Country of Beautiful Roses”. In 2015, an American folk-rock band from Los Angeles “ The Wicked Saints ” quail [7] [8] . This time, the band members tentatively contacted Yuri Loza, and he suggested that they bring the version they composed into line with the author’s clerks. Together with Yuri, his son Oleg participated in writing the English text [9] . The correspondence between Yuri Loza and The Wicked Saints about the song lasted about a year [10] . The idea to sing this song to The Wicked Saints singer Paul McCarthy was submitted by singer, poet and science fiction writer Marina Gutman, who was born in Moldova , whom this song has known since childhood. After recording Free with Wicked Saints, Paul left the band. She and Marina formed the group Non-Duo [11] (from English - “Not a duet”), the repertoire of which also included the song Vines [12] .
