583rd Fighter Aviation Regiment

The 583rd Fighter Aviation Order of the Red Star Regiment ( 583rd IAP ) is a military unit of the Air Force of the Red Army , which took part in the hostilities of the Soviet-Japanese War .

The 583rd fighter aviation regiment was formed from September 10 to November 9, 1941 in the Air Force of the 15th Army of the Far Eastern Front at the Lazarevo airdrome in the Jewish Autonomous Region, state 015/134 on I-15bis and I-16 aircraft based on the 76th assault Aviation Regiment , 300th , 301st and 302nd IAP with the inclusion of the 15th Army of the 15th Army of the Far Eastern Front as part of the 69th Air Force Division [1] .

In January 1942, the regiment was transferred to the 96th combined aviation division [1] of the Air Force of the 2nd Red Banner Army of the Far Eastern Front . On August 6, 1942, two squadrons (27 I-15bis) were allocated from the regiment to form the 973rd assault aviation regiment , after which the regiment completely switched to I-16 [1] .

August 15, 1942 as part of the 96th mixed aviation division became part of the 11th air army of the Far Eastern Front [1] . In December 1942, the regiment was reorganized to state 015/284. The regiment received the new Yak-9D aircraft in July 1944 and began to develop them. In November 1944 it was reorganized according to the state 015/364. In December 1944, with the reorganization of the 11th Air Army into the 18th Mixed Aviation Corps, together with the 96th Assault Aviation Division, it became part of the 10th Air Army of the Far Eastern Front . In the spring of 1945, a regiment from the 96th assault aviation division was transferred to the 296th fighter aviation division of the 10th air army of the Far Eastern Front [1] , rearmament to the Yak-9M and Yak-9T fighters. At the beginning of the war with Japan (08/08/1945) he had 10 Yak-9T, 40 Yak-9M and 1 Yak-9D in combat force [1] .

As part of the [1] 296th Fighter Aviation Division of the 10th Air Army of the 2nd Far Eastern Front, he participated in the Soviet-Japanese war on Yak-9 aircraft [2] from August 9, 1945 to September 3, 1945, supporting the advancing troops in the Sungarian offensive operation .

In total during the Soviet-Japanese War, the regiment [1] :

  For exemplary fulfillment of command assignments in battles against Japanese troops in the Far East when crossing the Amur and Ussuri rivers, taking possession of the cities of Jiamusi, Mergen, Eianzhen, the southern half of Sakhalin Island, as well as the islands of Syumusu and Paramushir from the Kuril Islands and valor and courage shown By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 14, 1945, the 583rd fighter aviation regiment was awarded the Order of the Red Star .

The entire post-war period, the regiment was constantly stationed in the Far East, from October 1945 to July 1, 1946 at the Tambovka airfield in the Amur Region, and from July 1946 to 1960 at the Khomutovo airfield on Sakhalin . In 1952, the regiment mastered the MiG-15 fighters, and in 1955 - the MiG-17 . In 1957, together with the division, it was transferred to the Air Defense Forces and learned the name of the 583rd Fighter Aviation Order of the Red Star Air Defense Regiment. Due to a significant reduction in the USSR Armed Forces, the regiment was disbanded on May 9, 1960 at its Khomutovo airfield.
