Augustus Eduard Grel ( German August Eduard Grell ; 1800–1886) - German organist , composer , conductor , choirmaster and music teacher ; Director of the Academy of Singing in Berlin .

Biography
Edward Grel was born on November 6, 1800 in the city of Berlin ; the son of the royal secretary in the Department of Forestry Augustus Wilhelm Grel.
He studied music from Karl Friedrich Zelter and Karl Friedrich Rugenhagen . On the recommendation of Zelter, he was adopted by an organist in Nikolaykirche , the oldest of the Berlin churches.
He was elected a life member and director of Sing-Akademie zu Berlin . He also served as a professor of composition at the Berlin Academy of Arts , as a connoisseur of old church music, especially the works of Palestrina. Among his students was, in particular, Heinrich Karl Johann Hoffmann [4] .
He wrote many church musical compositions and other works, in particular, three symphonies, three string quartets, an oratorio "Israel in Egypt", overtures and much more [5]
Commander of the Order of Pour le Mérite and the Order of the Red Eagle, 4 degrees , as well as the Order of Merit in the field of arts and science [6] .
Augustus Edward Grel died on August 10, 1886 in his hometown.
