Biography

He graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Voronezh in 1920. During the Civil War, he served as a doctor in the Red Army . In 1924-1933 at the Institute for the Study of Occupational Diseases . In 1941–1942, on his initiative, an otolaryngological hospital was established in Moscow, in which he worked as a leading surgeon and supervisor. Developed and improved methods for the diagnosis and treatment of air-contusion injury to the hearing organs.

In 1931-1952 he headed the department of otorhinolaryngology, sanitary and hygienic faculty of the 1st MMI . In connection with the campaign “ against cosmopolitanism ” in 1952, he was dismissed from work and arrested in the same year in the “ case of doctors ”, released in early April 1953. In 1953–1975 he worked as a consultant in the MPS polyclinic, and simultaneously in 1958–1968 Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, the F. F. Erisman Hygiene Research Institute , then a consultant there until 1975.

He was buried at Vostryakovsky Jewish cemetery with his wife Anna Israel (1896-1983). [one]

Scientific Activities

Scientific works are devoted to the problem of deafness, the clinic and the treatment of otogenic meningitis , acute and chronic inflammation of the middle ear . Developed a method for the treatment of osteomyelitis of the temporal bone with transplantation of skin-muscular and periosteal flaps; improved the method of hearing research ( Bing’s test ). Participated in the creation of reissued textbooks for medical institutes and colleges.

The famous "Temkin method" - a type of novocaine blockade, consisting in the introduction of a solution of novocaine into the surface layer of the nasal roller mucosa.

  • Daughter - Isabella Yakovlevna Temkina (born 1921, Moscow), otorhinolaryngologist, specialist in the field of audiology , doctor of medical sciences (1972).
  • Daughter - Vera Yakovlevna Temkina (born 1929, Moscow), a specialist in the field of coordination chemistry , doctor of chemical sciences (1969). Since 1954, at the State Institute of Chemical Reagents , laureate of the USSR State Prize (1978).
  • Brother - Israel Solomonovich Temkin (1902, Gomel - 1964, Moscow), urologist , doctor of medical sciences (1960). He graduated from the Moscow Medical Institute (1926). Head of the urology department of the 57th city clinical hospital. The author of the monograph "Treatment of Bladder Occupational Diseases" (1960), also published in England .
