Banadir ( Somal. Banaadir or Xamar ) is a region ( gobol ) in southwestern Somalia . Its center is Mogadishu .

Description
It borders the Somali regions of Middle Shabelle (Shabeellaha Dhexe) and Lower Shabelle (Shabeellaha Hoose) and the Indian Ocean .
The toponym "Banadir" (Banaadir) came from the Persian bandar , which means "port". The term applied to the coastal cities of Mogadishu and Barava . The toponym reflects the regionβs medieval position as a key shopping center associated with Persia and the Arabian Peninsula . Banadir is also known for its local breed of Somali goats (Somali goat) [3] .
Mogadishu is its capital, despite the fact that the administrative region coincides in territory with the city. Banadir is much smaller than the historical Benadir region, which extends over most of the country's central and southern sea coasts with access to the Indian Ocean to the river. Jubba and includes Mogadishu.
Banadir is the smallest of the administrative regions of Somalia ( gobol ).
Yusuf Hussein Jimaale is the current Governor of Banadir and Mayor of Mogadishu.
Neighborhoods
The Banadir region is divided into seventeen districts [4] . Warta Nabada District (Warta Nabada District) until the official renaming of 2012 was called the Wardhigli District (Wardhigley District) [5] . The Kadha District (Kadha District) was highlighted in 2013 and, by inertia, is missing on some maps [6] .
