Description

It borders the Somali regions of Middle Shabelle (Shabeellaha Dhexe) and Lower Shabelle (Shabeellaha Hoose) and the Indian Ocean .

The toponym "Banadir" (Banaadir) came from the Persian bandar , which means "port". The term applied to the coastal cities of Mogadishu and Barava . The toponym reflects the region’s medieval position as a key shopping center associated with Persia and the Arabian Peninsula . Banadir is also known for its local breed of Somali goats (Somali goat) [3] .

Mogadishu is its capital, despite the fact that the administrative region coincides in territory with the city. Banadir is much smaller than the historical Benadir region, which extends over most of the country's central and southern sea coasts with access to the Indian Ocean to the river. Jubba and includes Mogadishu.

Banadir is the smallest of the administrative regions of Somalia ( gobol ).

Yusuf Hussein Jimaale is the current Governor of Banadir and Mayor of Mogadishu.
