Langeland ( d. Langeland ) - an island in the Baltic Sea , located to the west of the Great Belt Strait , between the islands of Funen and Lolland . Belongs to Denmark . Area - 283.84 km ², length 52 km, width 11 km. The population is 13,340 ( January 1, 2009 ).

The island is part of the Langeland municipality ( South Denmark region). The main city is Rudkøbing .

Geography
The relief is flat, in some places hilly, up to 46 m high. Vegetation: deciduous forests ( beech ).
Economy
Langeland is a recreational area. Sectors of agriculture: horticulture , animal husbandry , fishing . Crop crops , potatoes , sugar beets are cultivated.
Connected bridges with the islands of Tosinge and Funen . There is a ferry service to the islands of Lolland, Erø and Strynø ( dat. Strynø ).
Attractions
The main attraction is Tranekæ Castle (dat.Tranekær), near the town of Rudkøbing. Until 1231, it served as a royal residence. Rudkøbing itself has several medieval churches preserved. And in the south of the island there is a stone age mound with a dolmen located on it.
