History
Back in the days of the first centralized state in the history of China - the Qin empire - Ganyu County (赣榆县) was created here. Soon after the founding of the Han empire, one of the first emperors transferred these lands as a specific possession to one of his close associates, and the county ceased to exist.
In the following centuries, the administrative structure of these lands changed more than once, a county with the name "Ganyu" was created again and again disbanded. During the empires of Sui, Tang and Song, Huaizhen County (怀仁县) existed on these lands. In 1167, it was again renamed Ganyu County, and in this form existed until the final fall of the monarchy in China.
When during the civil war these lands came under the control of the Communists at the end of 1947, the Ganyu County was renamed Zhutin (竹 庭 县). After the formation of the PRC, the name Ganyu was returned to him, and he became part of the Linyi Special Region (临沂 专区) of Shandong Province .
In 1953, the county was transferred to Jiangsu province, where it became part of the Xuzhou Special District (徐州 专区). In 1983, Xuzhou County was disbanded, and the county was transferred under the jurisdiction of Lianyungang.
In 2014, Ganyu County was transformed into an area of urban subordination.
