Biography

The debut of the singer in the opera took place in 1904, in the troupe of the Metropolitan Opera , when she played the role of one of the flower girls in the operetta Parsifal by Richard Wagner . In 1906 she went to Italy and performed there at various opera houses throughout this country. In 1910, she played the role of Alice in the operetta “ Lucia di Lammermoor ” by Gaetano Donizetti , performing with Louise Tetrazzini in the theater Regio di Parma . She also appeared in small roles at performances held in Covent Garden and downtown Manhattan [1] . For the next four years, she performed in the Philadelphia and the Chicago opera companies. In 1914, she returned to the Metropolitan Opera, but in the next eighteen years she played mostly secondary roles . In particular, Egener participated in the original productions of “ Village Romeo and Juliet ” by Frederic Dilius in 1907 [2] , “ Canterbury Pilgrims ” by Reginald De Cowen in 1917, “ Sister Angelica ” by Giacomo Puccini in 1918, in the opera of Albert Wolff "The Blue Bird "In 1919," The Bandit of the King "by Dims Taylor in 1927, and in his production of Peter Ibbetson in 1931. The last performance of the singer took place in December 1932, in Giuseppe Verdi 's opera La Traviata . It became 752 in a row with a performance at the Metropolitan Opera [3] . After that, she taught vocals in New York , and then in New Orleans . She married the conductor Luis Hasselmans (1878-1957). She died in New Orleans in 1938 [1] .

Records

Egener made five recordings on the RCA Victor label, including sextet parts from Lucia di Lammermoor, along with Enrico Caruso and Amelita Galli-Curci .
