Biography

He graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of St. Petersburg University in 1910, then studied medicine in Munich . In 1914 he graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University . In 1919-1922, an employee of the Biochemical Institute of the People's Health of the RSFSR under the leadership of A.N. Bach . Since 1925, head of the department of psychiatry at the State Institute of Defectology in Moscow . In 1930-1934 he was the head of the Department of Psychiatry at the Rostov Medical Institute . In 1935-1951 head of the Department of Psychiatry TSIUV . During the Great Patriotic War he organized in the Tajik SSR the first psychiatric hospital in the USSR and the first rear specialized hospital for the wounded in the head. At the beginning of March 1953 he was arrested in the " case of doctors ", released at the end of April. In 1951-1957, head of the clinic of the Institute of Psychiatry of the Ministry of Health of the RSFSR .

He was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery .

Scientific activity

One of the first psychiatrists in the USSR to use active therapy for mental illness. The initiator of the development of a method for treating psychosis with a long sleep; studied the mechanisms of action of insulin and electroshock methods and clarified indications for their use; developed a typology of remissions in schizophrenia ; He conducted research on the methodology of psychiatry, clinical problems, pathogenesis , differential diagnosis and therapy of epilepsy (he proposed as a medicine a mixture of drugs named after him).
