History
The first mention of Kympeni in the documents dates back to 1587, when Zhigmond Bathory gave permission to a certain Nicholas Philemon of Kympeni to set up a water mill at the confluence of the Abrud River into the Aries River.
In the middle of the 18th century, a large peasant uprising broke out in these places. It did not lead to an improvement in the situation of the people, and in the second half of the 18th century the Uprising of Horia, Kloshka and Krishan broke out here. At that time, Kympeni was the largest mountain village in Transylvania: 5400 people lived here - more than even in the cities of Alba Iulia and Tirgu Mures .
In 1848, Kympeni became the center of the Romanian uprising in Transylvania: it was here that Avram Janku was entrenched.
Administrative staff
In addition to the city itself, another 21 villages are subordinate to the Kampeni municipality.
