In Kosovo , license plates are issued by the Ministry of the Interior. By June 1, 2012, all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo were required to equip their cars with license plates. Failure to comply with this order entails the confiscation of a foreign number (including Serbian numbers), as well as a fine. [one]
Symbols used
The new design of car numbers was introduced on December 6, 2010. It contains the letters RKS (initials of the Republic of Kosovo) in a blue field, a two-digit number corresponding to the Kosovo districts , the coat of arms of Kosovo , a three-digit number and, finally, two serial letters. [2] The three-digit number starts with 101 and the serial letters begin with AA. The remaining car numbers with the old design issued by UNMIK are replaced with new ones after the submission of the corresponding application. As of December 26, 2011, RKS numbers will be replaced by temporary Serbian numbers when crossing the border with Serbia.
