Persian Gulf [4] ( Persian خلیج فارس [Khalidzh-e-Fars] [5] ; in the Arab countries - Arab. الخليج العربي [Al-Khalidzh-arabi] - Arabian Gulf ) - a gulf between Iran and Arabian peninsula . Connected by the Strait of Hormuz with the Gulf of Oman , the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean . According to the hydrological regime, it is the Mediterranean Sea [6] .

The coastal countries of the Persian Gulf are Oman , the United Arab Emirates , Saudi Arabia , Qatar , Bahrain , Kuwait , Iraq and Iran . The Shatt al-Arab River flows into the Persian Gulf, formed from the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates .
The name of this reservoir is disputed by Arab countries that wish to call it the "Arabian Gulf."
