James Ogilvy Grant, 11th Earl of Seafield, 3rd Baron Straspey

The title of Baron Strassay was first created on August 14, 1858 for John Ogilvy-Grant, 7th Earl of Seafield (1815-1881). In 1884, after the death of his son, Ian Charles Ogilvy-Grant, the 8th Earl of Seafield and the 2nd Baron Strassay (1851-1884), the baronial title was interrupted.

The re-title of Baron Strassea was renewed on June 17, 1884 for James Ogilvy Grant, 9th Earl of Seafield (1817–1888), the uncle of the deceased Ian Ogilvy Grant, 8th Earl of Seafield. He was a member of the House of Commons from Elginshire and Nairnshire (1868–1874). In 1853, James Ogilvy-Grant also inherited the title of Baronet from Kolkahun. The titles of Baron Strasseus and the Baronet remained auxiliary titles of the Earls of Seafield until the death in 1915 of the grandson of the 9th Earl, James Ogilvy-Grant, 11th Earl of Seafield (1876-1915). After his death, the count's title, which could be inherited by male and female descendants, was received by his only daughter, Nina Carolina Stadley-Herbert, 12th Countess Sifield (1906-1969).

The titles of Baron Strasseus and the Baronet, which could be inherited only by male descendants, passed to the brother of the deceased, Trevor Ogilvy-Grant, 4th Baron Strassey (1879-1948). His son, Donald Patrick Trevor Ogilvy-Grant, 5th Baron Strassay (1912-1992), in 1950 received court permission for the name "Grant from Grant."

As of 2014, the title holder was the eldest son of the latter, James Patrick Trevor Grant of Grant, 6th Baron Strassay (born 1943), who succeeded his father in 1992 . He is also the 33rd leader of the Scottish mountain clan Grant .

The 6th Lord Straspay, a descendant of the 10th Earl of Seafield, stands in the line of inheritance of the count's title and its auxiliary titles. Lord Straspay has no sons, he has only three daughters. But the female heirs cannot claim the titles of Baron Strassey and the Baronet from Kolkahun.
