Description
It borders with Ethiopia ( Ogaden in the Somalia region), the Somali regions of Hiran , Bai and Gedo .
Bakol, like Gedo and Bai, as well as much of Middle Jubba (Jubbada Dhexe) were part of the old Upper Region, divided in the mid-1980s.
In March 2014, the Somali Armed Forces, with the support of the Ethiopian battalion and AMISOM, recaptured Khuddur (the capital of the Bakol region) from the Al-Shabab armed group [2] . The offensive operation was part of the intensified military operations of the combined forces to overthrow the rebel group from areas left under its control in southern Somalia [3] .
