Between Steinitz and Wienaver, a small match of two games was played for the 1st prize (June 23 and 24). The match ended with a score of 1: 1 (opponents won one game in black pieces), and the first prize was divided between both participants. [2]

After the end of the first round, Noah was urgently called home to perform his duties. In this regard, before the start of the second round, all participants in the competition were awarded victories in the games against Noah in the second round. Fleisig played three games in the second round against English, Byrd and Chigorin, and then (after the 20th round) dropped out of the tournament. In all the remaining games, defeats were counted for him (except for the game against Noah). Also in the second round due to illness, Bird was forced to miss tours from the 29th to the 33rd - games against Wittek, Weiss, Zuckertort, Schwartz and Meitner. In all of these games, Bird was counted defeat.
