Description

SEC “Bitola” consists of two parts: the coal mine “Suvodol” and the Bitol TPP ( Maced. Thermoelectranat Bitola ) - a coal-fired power plant located in the vicinity of the village of Novatsi , 12 km from the city of Bitola. In 1980, slag mining began here (the structure of the mine included an excavator, a stacker and a conveyor), and electricity production began in 1982, when the first block of the power station was built. In total, there are 3 power units at the station: the first 2 were put into operation in 1984, the third in 1988. On average, a power plant produces 72% of all the energy needed by Macedonia and its energy system [2] .

A new Brod - Gneotino coal mine is also being built in the Pelagon basin, which could extend the life of the CHPP by another 15 years. Mining and Energy Combine Bitola, the largest electricity producer in the country [3] , is a subsidiary of the Macedonian state-owned energy company ELEM [2] .
