Biography
A prominent figure in the Genoese political scene, he studied in Leuven ( Belgium ) and in Venice. He became Chancellor and Secretary of State in 1571 . He was a representative of the so-called "new" nobility.
In 1591, Senarega was elected Senator of the Republic, and on December 5, 1595 - Doge, 80th in the history of the republic. He held this position until December 4, 1597 . After the end of the mandate, he received the post of life prosecutor and retirement, as well as former doges.
In 1594, he posed for sculptor Taddeo Carlone for a statue in the chapel of St. Sebastian of St. Lawrence Cathedral.
Senarega was also a prominent intellectual of his time and author of historical texts and translations, in particular the works of L'epistole di Cicerone ad Attico fatte volgari da M. Matteo Senarega and Historie .
