Gyro, Alexander

Pierre-Marie-Jean-Alexander-Therese Gyro ( fr. Pierre-Marie-Jeanne-Alexandre-Thérèse Guiraud ) better known as Alexander Gyro (December 24, 1788 - February 24, 1847) - French poet, playwright and novelist.

Biography

Gyro was born in Lima, Aude, the son of a wealthy textile merchant. He studied at the School of Law in Toulouse, where he wrote "Gymnase Littéraire". He often traveled to Paris, where the success of his poetry opened the door to the French Academy, to which he was elected by winning against Alfonso de Lamartine in 1826. He received the title of Baron from Charles X in 1827 as a reward for his contribution to the creation of the opera Faramond. He was the author of many elegiac poems, as well as tragedies and novels. Died in Paris.
