Biography

Boris Shcherbakov was born in Leningrad on Vasilievsky Island on December 11, 1949 in the family of a driver and factory worker. “Dad drove bread to Leningrad, and my mother worked on the Road of Life as a traffic controller. Once my father’s lorry fell under the ice and began to sink, and his mother pulled it out - it saved her life. So they met. ”

The Shcherbakovs family consisted of five people, they lived on sixteen square meters in a communal apartment on Opochinina Street on Vasilyevsky Island. The window of the room overlooked the Gulf of Finland , along which the ships went, and Boris dreamed of becoming a captain and traveling.

At age 12, Boris was selected for the role of Glebka Prokhorov in the children's adventure film " Mandate ". As the actor himself recalls, he received 480 rubles for this role, which later came in handy for paying for the services of a lawyer in connection with the parsing of the accident case on Nevsky Prospect, in which his father, who worked as a taxi driver, knocked down a pedestrian.

In 1967, Boris graduated from high school and tried to enter LGITMIK , but did not pass the competition, having eliminated himself in the third round. Despite this setback, he entered the Krupskaya Institute of Culture at the director's faculty.

A year later, Boris Shcherbakov learned that in Moscow P.V. Massalsky would be gaining a course at the Moscow Art Theater School . Since Boris had long dreamed of learning exactly from Massalsky, he decided to drop everything and go to try his luck in Moscow. The dean of the institute was still able to insist that Boris pass the session . Going to Moscow with a delay (due to passing the session), Boris was horrified to learn that the exams had already been completed - because the theater was leaving on a tour in Japan , the exams were held a week earlier.

Boris Vasilievich recalls:

“I had nothing to lose, I burst into the audience, where the teachers were sitting, and yelled:“ Pal Masalich! I want to learn from you! ". Not only did I make a commotion, but I also confused the patronymic of the teacher. Everyone was confused. But, apparently, the fact that I said to everyone that I want to study under Pavel Vladimirovich Massalsky flattered the famous teacher, he listened to me and accepted. A few days later I was already transferring from the Leningrad Institute to the Moscow Art Theater School ”.

During his studies at the school-studio, Boris Shcherbakov every week for a weekend drove a hare to Leningrad in a common passenger train carriage . At night, he worked as a washing machine driver at the Prospekt Marx metro station (now Okhotny Ryad ).
In 1972, Boris graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School and in the same year became an actor of the Moscow Art Theater. His first work in a new capacity was the role of Sanka in the production of The Steelworker .
