Biography

The early years

Pupil of the Youth Sports School of the city of Sumy In 1997, he played at the first representative competition for himself - the “Christmas Futsal Tournament”, which took place in Sumy. Oleg played for the Sumy District team (the town of Stepanovka) and scored 13 times in four matches - this enabled him to become the top scorer of the tournament. In 1999, at the age of 15, he played one match for Sumygaz in the major league of the Ukrainian futsal championship [2] .

He began his professional career in the Sumy club “Frunzenec-League-99” . In total, the team spent 53 matches in which he scored 17 goals.

In the summer of 2002, he was spotted by the head coach of Kiev Arsenal Vyacheslav Grozny , and the leadership of the Gunners managed to lure Oleg into his club. He made his debut in the Premier League of Ukraine on July 27, 2002 in the match “Arsenal” - “Vorskla” (2: 1).

Dynamo (Kiev)

In the summer of 2003 he moved to Dynamo (Kiev) . At the same time, Gusev received an invitation to the Ukrainian national team , and soon became a midfielder of the main national team. At the 2006 World Cup, Oleg scored a winning goal in the penalty shootout of the match against Switzerland . After a good game at the World Cup, Gusev became interested in the French Olympic Lyon [3] . However, the president of Dynamo, Igor Surkis , calling Gusev one of the future stars of the Kiev club, along with Artyom Milevsky , refused to sell the player [4] .

Gusev as part of Dynamo

In 2008, he won the Channel One Cup . On April 12, 2008, in a Ukrainian championship match, Gusev jumped over the leg of the defender, who performed the tackle, and landed unsuccessfully. The anterior cruciate ligaments and two menisci were damaged. He underwent surgery [5] . Oleg returned to the field on October 31 - he played the first half in a meeting of understudies.

June 1, 2012 made a double in the control match against Austria , however, Ukraine lost 2: 3. July 8, 2012 he was elected team captain. January 11, 2016 extended the contract with Dynamo for 5 months, until the end of the 2015/2016 season.

On March 30, 2014, in a championship match against Dnipropetrovsk Dnipro, during a collision with an opponent's goalkeeper, Denis Boyko received a head injury. First aid was provided by the Georgian Dnepr legionnaire Jaba Kankava : he prevented the falling of his tongue. According to Dynamo doctors, Kankava saved Gusev’s life. The next day, the player was discharged from the hospital [6] .

November 2, 2014 he replaced the match against Dnipro, which became for him the 500th in his career at the highest level.

September 20, 2015, in the match of the eighth round of the championship of Ukraine against Lutsk “Volyn” [7] , he scored the 100th goal in his career and entered the symbolic Club of scorers Oleg Blokhin [8] .

The championship match against Dawn , which took place on March 20, 2016, became 550th for the midfielder in his professional football career.

December 16, 2016 it became known that the leadership of Dynamo will not continue to cooperate with Gusev [9] .

On June 12, 2017, Gusev returned to Dynamo, signing a one-season contract with the club. The first match after signing was held against Lviv “ Carpathians ” (5: 0).

May 19, 2018, Gusev spent the last match for Dynamo, in which the Kiev team at the Valery Lobanovsky Stadium beat Donetsk Shakhtar 2-1. Oleg in the 75th minute replaced Nikolai Shaparenko , immediately received a captain's armband, but did not have time to mark effective actions. During Gusev’s replacement, Dynamo fans staged a performance and put up banners with the inscriptions “Legend # 20” and “Dyakumo for vіrnіst” (“Thank you for your loyalty”) [10] .

Almost immediately after the end of the speeches, he switched to coaching, becoming an assistant to Yuri Moroz in the Dynamo youth team.
