Höcker, Wilhelm

Wilhelm Höcker (also Wilhelm Haecker , German Wilhelm Höcker ; June 29, 1886 , Holzendorf - November 15, 1955 , Guestrow ) - German politician, member of the SPD and SED . Prime Minister of the State of Mecklenburg in 1946-1951.

Biography

The son of a carpenter Wilhelm Höcker in 1893-1901 studied at a public school in Voldegke , in 1901-1904 he received a commercial education in Brussels . In 1904-1906 he worked as a clerk in Penzlin and Rostock , then until 1908 he served in the army in Rostock and received the post of employee in the administration of the Port of Hamburg. In 1911-1914 he worked as a storekeeper in the consumer union in Gustrow . In 1911 he joined the SPD and free trade unions. In the years 1914-1918 he fought at the front.

In 1918-1919 he again worked as a storekeeper in Gustrow. In 1919-1921, Höcker headed the district catering department in Gustrow. In 1921-1932 he worked as an adviser in the administration of Gustrow. In 1920-1933 he was a deputy of the Landtag of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, from 1926 he held the posts of chairman and first deputy chairman. Under the National Socialists, Höcker made his living in a tobacco shop in Gustrow. In 1944, he spent several weeks under arrest as part of mass repressions after the July 20 conspiracy .

At the end of World War II, Höcker was appointed deputy chief mayor of Güstrow, then in June 1945 he was appointed by the Soviet occupation authorities chairman of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania land administration, which has been called Mecklenburg since 1947. In 1945-1946 he was chairman of the land board of the SPD in Mecklenburg. In 1946 he joined the SED . From December 1946 to July 1951, he served as the elected Prime Minister, was a member of the land board of the SED and its secretariat.

In 1948-1949, Höcker was a member of the German People’s Council , and from 1949-1950 he was a member of the Provisional People’s Chamber .

In 1952-1953, Wilhelm Höcker served as Deputy Chairman of the German Red Cross in Rostock , and from 1953 he was chairman of the German-Soviet Friendship Society in Schwerin . In 1954, Höcker was elected to the Chamber of Lands of the GDR and was a deputy of the Schwerin District Council.
