Biography
Baron Maximilian Leopold Otto Ferdinand von der Goltz was born on April 18, 1838 in the city of Konigsberg ; from the noble family Goltz .
October 28, 1853 he entered the active military service in the naval forces of the Kingdom of Prussia .
In 1863-1865 Max von der Goltz walked on the frigate "Gazelle" to the shores of Japan and China .
In the years 1870-1871. took part in the Franco-Prussian war .
In 1875, he was promoted to captain, and then made several trips as commander of the Augustus corvette to South America and the West Indies [2] .
In 1883, Max von der Goltz commanded a flotilla in East Asia , and then was director of the department in the admiralty [3] .
In 1889, he was appointed commander of the German Navy admiral [3] , and in 1892 he was promoted to admiral .
