Karel Peak was a famous and influential author of works in Esperanto. [12] [13] [14] He introduced and used many neologisms in the language, some of which were controversial. [15] In addition to neologisms, he was known for his experimental use of Esperanto . Some Esperantists say that Peak went so far in his experiments that instead of Esperanto he used some other language he had invented. [sixteen]

His most famous work embodying his linguistic experiments [17] is the semi-autobiographical novel La Litomiŝla tombejo (cemetery in Litomyšl) (1981). At this cemetery in his hometown of Litomyšl, he himself is also buried. On his tombstone is written in Czech words “Esperantský spisovatel” (“Esperanto-writer”).

Esperanto-based writer, poet, and translator, Scottish William Old included Peake’s novel in the list of classical works in Esperanto. [18]
