Taxonomy

For the first time, a new species was scientifically described in 1983 [4] . The species is known for the only individual designated by the holotype - a female 34.7 cm long, caught in the waters of Argentina ( ) at a depth of 120 m. Species epithet comes from lat. parva . - β€œsmall” and lat. cauda . -"tail".

Range

These stingrays live in the north of the Falkland Islands . They are found at a depth of up to 120 m [2] .

Description

The broad and flat pectoral fins of these slopes form a rhombic disk with a wide triangular snout and rounded edges. On the ventral side of the disc are 5 gill slits, nostrils and mouth. The tail is longer than the disk. There are lateral folds on the tail. These skates have 2 reduced dorsal fins and a reduced caudal fin [1] . The maximum recorded length is 34.7 cm [3] .

Biology

These stingrays lay eggs enclosed in a horn capsule with "horns" in the corners [5] .

Human Interaction

These ramps are not the target fishing target. Data for the assessment by the International Union for Conservation of Nature of the conservation status of β€œthe species is not enough [2] .
